Must Haves for Pregnancy


Now on my 4th pregnancy, I have narrowed down my list of tried and true maternity must-haves to a list twelve essential comfort items. These items include fashion, beauty, health and wellness products to make pregnancy easier. Pregnancy is not easy, but these items will help you survive pregnancy for 9 months and prepare for birth.

1. Pregnancy Pillow with Jersey Cover

A large, comfy pregnancy pillow is really the best way to sleep comfortably! However, these pillows often take up a ton of room. We joke that it is the third person in our bed. The price for this one on Amazon is very reasonable.

2. Premama Prenatal Vitamins and other products:

I have used products from this brand for several pregnancies now. What I love about their vitamin is that it is just once daily. During the first trimester I felt pretty nauseous, but I could still get one of their vitamins down. It has a slight mint coating, so the taste going down is really pleasant! 3. Glow Organics Belly Butter

A great belly butter that is organic is your friend! Your belly will stretch in ways it never has before and even with subsequent pregnancies, it will feel like it is doing it for the first time all over again. While whether you develop stretch marks or not is largely hereditary, you can ease skin into the growth with a rich cream. I love Glow Organic's Pure & Organic Belly Butter. It is made of a rich combination of organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter, organic macadamia nut butter, organic grapeseed oil, and organic sweet almond oil. 4. Boppy Pregnancy Wedge Sleeping Pillow

Around month 6 or so, sleeping becomes a little more uncomfortable. This little wedge is perfect for tucking under your belly and having a good night's rest. It is wonderful to travel with and a good option if the big body pillow is simply too big for your bed. I usually place the Boppy wedge pillow under my belly and another pillow between my legs for comfort. This wedge can be used between your legs if you feel more discomfort there when you sleep. It's been a lifesaver!

5. Bravado Wire-free Maternity and Nursing Bra

Having a great bra while you are pregnant is KEY to being comfortable. Forgo the underwire that can dig into you while your belly grows. Breasts become 30% heavier in pregnancy, so the support still needs to be there. I love these ones by Bravado. They are SO soft and they will carry you into postpartum so you can breastfeed or pump with easy access. The bras are easy to covert from maternity to breastfeeding and then back again. Well worth the money, I promise.

6. Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth

This book was a game-changer for me in preparing for birth. I became obsessed with Ina May Gaskin and her impressive statistics regarding positive healthy outcomes with vaginal birth, low complications and very low c-section rates while she was a midwife at The Farm. She paved the way for present day midwifery. Ina May's Guide to Childbirth is a must read if you are at all interested in a no-intervention and uncomplicated birth, whether you plan on a hospital birth, birthing center birth or home birth.
